📖 About This Tour
The 3-day Star Wars Djerba Tour is a circuit that follows the filming locations of the Skywalker saga from the island of Djerba through southern Tunisia, via Tataouine and Matmata. It's the perfect getaway for fans who want to walk in George Lucas's footsteps.
Why choose the 3-day Star Wars Djerba Tour?
Because it brings together Djerba's most iconic locations-the stormtrooper headquarters, Chalmun's Cantina, the Millennium Falcon alley, and Ben Kenobi's house near Sidi Jemour-before heading to the desert landscapes of the south. Ajim village — Mos Eisley (Episode IV) • The stormtrooper checkpoint • Chalmun's Cantina exterior
Your Star Wars adventure begins on the island of Djerba, which doubled on screen as the desert spaceport of Mos Eisley. In the whitewashed village of Ajim, walk the very streets where stormtroopers stopped Luke and Obi-Wan with the immortal line, “These aren't the droids you're looking for,” and stand before the modest old bakery that became Chalmun's Cantina. Between locations, soak up the gentle rhythm of island life before settling in for the night.
Hôtel-Restaurant Ksar Joumaa — or similar
Ksar Hadada — Mos Espa slave quarters (Episode I) • Berber village of Chenini • Ksar Ouled Soltane
After breakfast, head to Tataouine — the town that lent its name to the planet Tatooine, although no scenes were filmed in the town itself. Explore the honeycombed Ksar Hadada, the fortified granary that became the slave quarters of Mos Espa in The Phantom Menace, then continue to the spectacular cliffside village of Chenini for a guided walk among its centuries-old dwellings. After a traditional lunch, discover the magnificent Ksar Ouled Soltane, one of the best-preserved fortified granaries in the south, then continue to Matmata for an unforgettable overnight in the troglodyte Hôtel Sidi Driss — the Lars homestead itself.
Hôtel Sidi Driss, Matmata
Hôtel Sidi Driss, Matmata — the Lars homestead interior • Troglodyte dwellings • Drop-off
This morning you step onto one of cinema's most famous sets: the troglodyte Hôtel Sidi Driss in Matmata served as the interior of Luke Skywalker's boyhood home, its sunken courtyards and the celebrated “Star Wars courtyard” still dressed as the Lars family dining room and kitchen. Explore the underground dwellings carved into the earth and learn how the décor was rebuilt between Episodes IV and II. Your tour then concludes with a transfer back to your drop-off point.
