Ksar Ghilane Matmata Excursion

In the morning, our team will pick you up from your accommodation in Djerba or Zarzis.

First, you leave the island via the Roman road and head to the mainland. At a café surrounded by olive fields, your guide will brief you on the day's program and show you the route on a map.

Then, you proceed to Ain El Amba. There, you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Jeffara plain, perfect for photos.

After that, you conquer the stony tracks of the Tunisian Reg. You will experience the abrupt change of landscape and the thrill of winding through the mountain roads.

Later, in the middle of nowhere, you stop for a brief photo break. You will appreciate the unique silence. With luck, you might encounter a Bedouin with a herd of goats, sheep, or camels.

Arrival at Ksar Ghilane

After a scenic drive, you arrive at the oasis of Ksar Ghilane. This unique place is where the greenery of the palm grove merges with the desert dunes.

Your guide will show you where to change. Then, you can enjoy a swim in the natural hot spring. This same spring also irrigates the surrounding palm groves.

Nearby, you can book a quad or camel ride. These optional activities are paid on-site with local providers. You can also explore the dunes and visit the Tisavar fort.

Lunch

Later, you enjoy lunch with traditional Tunisian cuisine in a typical setting. The menu usually includes a starter, a main course (Tunisian couscous), and seasonal fruit for dessert.

Afternoon, Matmata & Berber Villages

After lunch, you depart for the troglodyte village of Matmata.

First, you take a coffee break in the Berber village of Tamazret. There, you will taste a special tea, rosemary tea with almonds.

Next, you visit a troglodyte house. You also explore Sidi Driss, a famous filming location of the Star Wars series.

Then, you discover the Berber village of Toujane. You take time for photos before heading back to Djerba.

Return

On your way back, you pass via the famous Ksar Hallouf. This collective attic was used to store the tribes' harvests. It features several Ghorfas with unique architecture. You will also enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding palm groves.

Finally, you return to Djerba or Zarzis. Your heart is light, and your head is full of beautiful memories, a perfect end to an unforgettable adventure.
