Your journey begins with a visit to the historic city of Kairouan, the fourth holiest city in Islam. You will explore the majestic Great Mosque, the Aghlabid Basins, and the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi. You will also taste the famous Kairouan makroud before enjoying a traditional Tunisian lunch. Then, you will head to Tozeur, where you will explore Mos Espa, the iconic Star Wars filming location used for the slave quarters and podracing scenes in Episode I. You will also visit the Tamerza Waterfalls, the mountain oasis of Chebika, and the dramatic canyons of Tamerza.

En route, you will cross the vast Chott Djerid, Africa’s largest salt lake. Then you will visit the magnificent El Jem Colosseum, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Tunis - Kairouan - Tozeur
Our team will pick you up wherever you are in Tunis and its surroundings around 6:00 AM, and your adventure will begin with a visit to the historic city of Kairouan.
Kairouan, known as the fourth holiest city in Islam, offers a rich tapestry of history and culture. You’ll visit the majestic Great Mosque, explore the Aghlabid Basins, a series of ancient water reservoirs that showcase the ingenuity of the Aghlabid dynasty in water management and the Mausoleum of Sidi Sahbi, also known as the Barber’s Mosque, dedicated to one of Prophet Muhammad’s companions. The mausoleum is an exquisite example of Islamic architecture, adorned with intricate tile work and carvings.
Enjoy the opportunity to taste the famous Kairouan makroud.
We’ll then break for lunch somewhere in a local restaurant where you can savor Tunisian dishes. (extra)
Then, we’ll head to Tozeur. Upon arrival, you’ll explore Mos Espa, a significant filming location from the Star Wars saga. Mos Espa was used as the setting for the slave quarters and podracing scenes in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.” You’ll have the opportunity to explore this iconic site and see firsthand where these memorable scenes were filmed.
Next, we’ll take you to the Tamerza Waterfalls, a breathtaking natural site where you can enjoy the tranquil surroundings and take memorable photos. We’ll also visit the mountain oases of Chebika, known for their lush vegetation, crystal-clear springs, and panoramic views of the surrounding desert landscape. You’ll have the chance to walk through this oasis, taking in the refreshing atmosphere and stunning scenery.
Finally, we’ll visit the canyons of Tamerza, where you’ll be amazed by the dramatic rock formations and the natural beauty of the canyons. This area is perfect for photography and offers a unique insight into the geological history of the region.

After breakfast, we’ll head to the troglodyte village of Matmata, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the unique troglodyte dwellings carved into the mountains. These homes offer a fascinating glimpse into local life and Berber architectural ingenuity.
In Matmata, we’ll also visit Sidi Driss, an iconic location where several scenes from the Star Wars saga were filmed. Sidi Driss, also known as the “Star Wars Hotel,” was used as the filming location for Luke Skywalker’s home on Tatooine. You’ll get to see up close the sets that have fueled the imaginations of millions of fans worldwide, and you’ll have the chance to explore the unique underground structures that make this location so special.
En route to Matmata, we’ll cross the vast Chott Djerid, Africa’s largest salt lake. This unique desert landscape is a breathtaking sight, with its endless salt flats creating a surreal and otherworldly panorama.
Next, we’ll visit the magnificent El Jem Colosseum, one of the largest in the world. Take time to visit the amphitheater and museum and discover the grandeur of this architectural wonder. The El Jem Colosseum is a UNESCO World Heritage site and offers a remarkable glimpse into Roman history and architecture.
