Tozeur Palm Grove

Tozeur Palm Grove is one of Africa’s largest, covering approximately 1,050 hectares with over 200,000 date palms . This vast oasis surrounds the city of Tozeur and is fed by more than 200 springs . Tozeur is Tunisia’s leading producer of dates, and its many oases are the source . The region produces the famous Deglet Nour variety, nicknamed “fingers of light” for its honey-colored, translucent flesh . These dates are considered the “queen of all dates” and are Tunisia’s flagship agricultural export .

The palm grove features a sophisticated multi-level planting system. Under the date palms, fruit trees such as bananas, pomegranates, figs, jasmine, Damask roses, fodder, and market garden crops thrive. Visitors can explore the oasis by horse-drawn carriage (caleche), bicycle, or on foot . The sandy lanes offer a peaceful escape from the desert heat, with shade provided by palms reaching over fifty feet in height .
