Half-day island tour, from pottery to prayers
Then you drive to Guellala, the largest Berber village on the island. Guellala is famous for its artisanal pottery workshops. You will visit one of them. A craftsman will demonstrate how they shape clay by hand. You can browse and buy earthenware pots, bowls, and traditional pieces. After Guellala, you head to La Ghriba. This is one of the oldest synagogues in the world. Jewish refugees built it after fleeing the destruction of Solomon’s Temple. On the way, you also see the Roman road, a low rock bridge dating back 2,000 years. You pass Houmt Souk, the island’s capital, with its whitewashed streets and ancient architecture. By the end of this half-day island tour, you will understand why Djerba offers much more than sand and sun.
