📖 About this excursion
Wild Bivouac in the Desert is a unique adventure in southern Tunisia. For this excursion, camels are essential for getting around. In the desert, you only find what you bring. Camels are tireless walkers and can carry up to 300 kg of luggage. For a bivouac, you need tents, mattresses, blankets, food, water, and kitchen equipment. They also carry your bags, so you can walk light.
You can do this experience for just one night. Though short, it will leave unforgettable memories. You leave in the afternoon, around 3:00 PM in winter, or 4:30 PM when it’s warmer. For 1.5 to 2 hours, you walk on the dromedaries or beside them. Then, before nightfall, the camel drivers set up the bivouac, and you help gather wood for the fire.
The magic of a Wild Bivouac night
When night falls, you enjoy a delicious couscous by the wood fire. After dinner comes traditional green tea. While sipping tea, people talk, tell stories, and sing. When it’s time to sleep, you choose: under the tent or under the stars. When the weather is clear, which it most often is, the sky is extraordinary. The luminous night, free from pollution, offers countless sparkling stars. The silence is total.
We provide tents, mattresses, and two blankets per person. Bring a sleeping bag if possible; if not, we lend one. At sunrise, breakfast is ready. The flatbread baked in the sand is eaten hot with jam, cheese, olive oil, and biscuits, a real treat. After breakfast, you return to the starting point.
This excursion is exclusively private and requires a minimum of two participants. You will be the only ones in the vehicle, enjoying the experience at your own pace, away from tourist crowds.

Departure for Ksar Ghilane and Overnight in Bivouac
Pick-up : Our team will pick you up in the morning from your accommodation in Djerba or Zarzis.
Transfer to Ksar Ghilane : You’ll travel through stunning landscapes in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, passing through authentic villages.
Arrival at Ksar Ghilane : Known for its oasis nestled in the heart of the desert and majestic dunes. Meet the camel drivers to start your adventure.
Camel trek departure : At around 4 PM, embark on a 2-hour ride on camelback or on foot, accompanied by the camel drivers, across the golden sand dunes.
Setting up the camp : At sunset, the camel drivers will set up the bivouac. You can help gather wood for the fire.
Dinner around the campfire: Enjoy traditional couscous and witness the preparation of sand-baked bread. The evening continues with green tea, stories, and traditional songs.
Overnight under the stars : Sleep under a Bedouin tent or in the open air, with blankets provided to keep you warm.
Return to Ksar Ghilane and End of the Excursion
Breakfast at sunrise : Wake up to the smell of freshly baked sand bread, served with jams, cheeses, and other treats.
Camelback return : After breakfast, return to the starting point in Ksar Ghilane with the camels.
Transfer back to Djerba or Zarzis : Your driver will be waiting at Ksar Ghilane to bring you back to your accommodation via the Roman road.
End of services: Arrival at your accommodation in the early afternoon.
