The city of Nabeul

The city of Nabeul is a charming coastal city in northeastern Tunisia on the beautiful Cap Bon Peninsula, about 60 kilometers southeast of Tunis. As the capital of the governorate of the same name, it has more than 70,000 inhabitants. Together with the neighboring towns of Dar Chaâbane El Fehri, Beni Khiar, Maamoura, and Hammamet, it forms a large urban area. The city overlooks the Gulf of Hammamet and attracts visitors with its golden sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and pleasant Mediterranean climate. These qualities make it one of Tunisia’s most popular seaside destinations.

Nabeul has a history of more than 2,400 years. The Greeks founded the city under the name Neapolis, and the Romans later occupied it. Muslim dynasties shaped much of the city’s heritage by building the Medina, traditional souks, historic gates, the Great Mosque, and Ksar Nabeul. During the French Protectorate, Nabeul gradually became a renowned holiday resort.

Today, the city of Nabeul enjoys an international reputation for its pottery and traditional crafts. Colorful ceramic sculptures welcome visitors at the city’s entrances and decorate many roundabouts. Local artisans create beautiful pottery with vibrant Tunisian designs. Many workshops and shops also sell mat weaving, ironwork, wood carving, and embroidery.

Nabeul also impresses visitors with its clean streets and peaceful atmosphere. Green spaces and the nearby sea add to its charm. Although its Medina is smaller than others in Tunisia, it offers an authentic experience. Visitors can stroll through traditional markets, browse artisan shops, and relax in welcoming cafés.
