Tunisia is a welcoming destination, but depending on your nationality, entering the country may require a visa. While many countries are exempt (European Union, United States, Canada, etc.), others must complete formalities before departure. There are in fact two main situations: countries for which a visa is required in advance, and those for which a visa can be issued on arrival at the airport.
1. Travellers who must obtain a visa before arriving
For some countries, the visa cannot be obtained on arrival. The application must be made before travelling, through the Tunisian consular authorities.

How to obtain this visa? The application is made at a Tunisian consulate or embassy in your country of residence. Supporting documents generally include a passport valid for 6 months, an application form, photos, proof of accommodation and booking, and proof of means of subsistence. Processing times can be long (several weeks), plan ahead.
2. Travellers who can obtain a visa on arrival
Around fifty nationalities can obtain a visa issued directly at the Tunisian airport. This is often the case for countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea and Brazil.
- The visa is generally chargeable (often around 60 TND / €20) and paid on the spot.
- The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
- It is strongly advised to have proof of accommodation and an onward/return ticket.
3. Group visas for tourist groups
For tourist groups organised by a travel agency, specific arrangements may exist, such as group visas. Your agency then handles the formalities.
4. Recommendations for everyone
- Check your situation with the Tunisian embassy or consulate responsible for your country, at least 1 to 2 months before departure.
